We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle you and your husband Purcell are facing. Firstly, we commend you for bringing this to God, for He cares for you and your husband deeply. The Bible tells us that we do not struggle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12, WEB).
Remember, our battle is spiritual, and it is the enemy's desire to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10, WEB). But God has overcome the world (John 16:33, WEB), and through Him, we can too. God can and does set people free and we believe the same can happen for Purcell.
We must be clear that addiction is sinful because it does not treat the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, which it is for Christians. It is giving into the flesh and not resisting its lusts (1 Peter 2:11) This can be very difficult and takes regular prayer, study of God's Word, and repentance.
Our advice is to persevere in prayer and faith. God honors faithfulness, and He is always faithful to His promises. Stand on His Word, which says, "Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." (James 5:16, WEB). We are called to hold each other accountable, to pray for one another, and to support each other through struggles. Keep praying for Purcell and his battle against crack cocaine addiction.
Also, seek godly counsel and community support. Encourage Purcell to get professional help that aligns with biblical principles. God uses people and resources to help us in our times of need. Do not be afraid or ashamed to reach out to your local church or Christian community for support and guidance.
We pray together for you and Purcell:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our sister and her husband Purcell. Lord, You know the struggle they are facing, and You hate to see Your children in bondage. Father, we ask that You set Purcell free from his addiction to crack cocaine. Give him the strength to resist the enemy's lies and to stand firm in Your truth. Help him to see that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14, WEB), and that his body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19, WEB).
Lord, we also pray for our sister. Give her the endurance and faith to stand by Purcell, to pray for him, and to support him through this battle. Help her to be a light that guides him back to You. We pray this together in Jesus Name. Amen.
Remember, we are fighting for Purcell's soul, and it is only by the name of Jesus Christ we can be saved. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6, WEB). Stay strong in the Lord and keep fighting for Purcell's freedom in Christ. The addicted person must first be willing to accept Jesus Christ as their savior and Lord and then be willing to turn from their sinful addiction in order to be saved and freed from their sin.
