We are saddened to hear about the difficulties you are facing with your adult daughter. It is important to remember that God’s love and guidance can transform even the most challenging situations. Let us turn to the Word of God for wisdom and comfort.
In Ephesians 6:4, it says, "Fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Similarly Colossians 3:21 says, "Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so they won’t be discouraged." This same principle applies to mothers and all parents. We are often unaware of how we affect our children and may not realize that our words or actions could be a significant contributor to our daughter's behavior. However, even if we do not believe we have wronged our children, we must continue to love them as God loves us. Our daughter may not have the wisdom to understand our intention or direction.
It is clear from what you shared that your daughter does not believe in Jesus. This is indeed a serious concern. The Bible tells us in John 3:16-18, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him. He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God." If we believe in Jesus, we are saved from our sins. If we do not believe in Jesus, we are condemned. It is a very serious matter.
Let us pray for your daughter, that God will soften her heart and draw her to Himself. Let us also pray for you, that God will give you the strength, wisdom, and patience to deal with this situation in a way that honors Him. Allow God to be sovereign over your daughter's life and trust that He is working in her heart, even if you cannot see it.
Heavenly Father, we come before You today to lift up this dear parent and their adult daughter. Lord, we ask that You would soften her heart and open her eyes to the truth of the Gospel. We pray that You would give her a spirit of gentleness and respect, and that You would heal the brokenness in their relationship. We ask that You would give this parent the wisdom and discernment to know how to best love and support their daughter, even in the midst of this difficult season. Lord, help them to show your love even in their circumstances. We pray that you would help them remember to pray for their daughter's salvation. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen and amen.
