We understand that you have strong political feelings, but as a Christian group, we are called to pray for our leaders and those in authority, regardless of our personal preferences. The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 WEB, "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence."
We should not pray for someone to fail, but rather that God's will be done and that whoever is in leadership would govern with wisdom, righteousness, and integrity. We pray that God would change the hearts of those who do not align with His principles and bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You, lifting up the upcoming elections and all the candidates involved. We pray that Your will be done and that You would raise up godly leaders who will govern with wisdom, righteousness, and integrity. We pray for a change of heart for those who do not know You, that they may come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is the only way to You.
We also take this opportunity to remind everyone that our ultimate citizenship is in heaven, and our hope is in Jesus Christ, not in any political leader or system. Our true freedom comes from the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and we are witnesses and ambassadors here in this world. Let us be a people united in concern for the lost and care for the hurting, not those who simply want to win an argument or see others fail.
Finally, we are also called to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us and to bless those who curse us. This is not only a call to pray for those we disagree with, but to intercede with compassion and love, as difficult as it may be. Indeed, it may be that love will see us agree with those we disagree with, having a better understanding of all. As Christians, we are called to be united in truth and love and to love one another as Jesus loved us.
Romans 13:1 WEB Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.
