Let us come together in the name of Jesus Christ unless the context indicates an urgent need, even then let his spirit be invoked to guide us, and bring your request before God.
Dear Lord,
We lift up Alana's father to You, merciful Father. We ask that You intervene in his life and break the chains of alcohol addiction. According to Your Word,
1 Corinthians 6:12 WEB
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of anything.
Intoxication is not expedient and alcohol can be an idol that can take power over our lives. Idols need to be cast out.
1 Corinthians 10:14 WEB
Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
Galatians 5:21 WEB
envy, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and things like these; of which I tell you beforehand, as I also told you in time past, that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:19-21 warn us that those who practice drunkenness has no part in the kingdom of God.
We pray that You fill him with through Your Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Temperance given from the Holy Spirit will allow him to be a good steward of your Holy Spirit. Stewardship includes sober living and through temperance he will evaluate his uncontrollable drinking and understand he will reap the consequences which include the harvest of his deeds. Pursue relevant eternal rewards rather than the rewards of alcohol.
Galatians 6:7-10 WEB
7 Don't be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a person sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let's do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.
When he is not under the influence he will be able to focus on the things that will edify his family and glorify God. He will be a good light to his family.
We pray healing in his heart, mind, and body. We rebuke the spirit of addiction and pray complete freedom in Jesus' name.
We commit to the Lord Alana's situation. Remember Alana, we should pray with thanksgiving according to the bible.
Philippians 4:6 WEB
6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
Praying with thanksgiving glorifies the most high and this is the will of God. Remember to pray to the most high God for the things you need. Remember Christ is your intercessor until he becomes your Lord and Savior.
Alana, we need to pray this in Jesus name in order to go to God on your behalf. Jesus is our intercessor. We need to call upon Him for this difficulty. Either we pray in Jesus name or we can pray that His name will become most highly lifted with your family. True healing only comes from receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. God has no reason to answer our prayers if we do not know Christ, His grace, His will, His glory, his power, His name. Once we do we are a believer. We can have access to the most high by using the name of Christ, Jesus.
John 14:6 WEB
6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
We must go through Jesus Christ in order to get to the Father. If we are unable to go through Jesus Christ, then we want a Holy Spirit encounter. Without Jesus, you cannot be saved.
Acts 4:10-12 WEB
10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, in him does this man stand here before you whole. 11 He is 'the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.' 12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"
Alana, we long for you and your family being saved which will be the first step in bringing true healing, bring true life, and bring true peace into both your and your father's life.
Turn from drunkenness through repentance. Repentance is turning from our sins is glorifying God, it is a response of the heart and mind and not just a change of behavior. If your father does nothing else may he turn from his drunkenness and call on the name of Jesus Christ to be saved. Repentance can be a progressive turn not necessarily a complete turn.
Luke 19:1-9 WEB
1 He entered and was passing through Jericho. 2 There was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 He was trying to see who Jesus was, and couldn't because of the crowd, because he was short. 4 He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. 5 When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house." 6 He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully. 7 When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner." 8 Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much." 9 Jesus said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
See Zacchaeus was a sinner but he offered to pay more than what was owed. This is repentance. Is this brief example of repentance different that a change of behavior? If so, how?
