Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for me.
I was foolish and wanted to help my neighbor with his purchasing a vehicle. I cosigned for him. Partially to help raise my credit and also to believe that I was doing a good deed and being a good person. Many, many months ago, I received a call from the loan agency, letting me know that a missed payment would affect our credit. I was unaware that the bill wasn't paid. I told my neighbor and he said he was working on getting it paid but there would be a delay, so I decided to make his payment; $583.00. He promised he would pay me back. I felt confident because before I cosigned he told me he was expecting a sizable settlement and up until then the payments would be regular. That was also part of the deal - I would have my credit raised and after his settlement, he would pay off the vehicle and I would no longer be bound to it. I put my trust in him. When I asked him for my payment, he kept giving me reasons why there was a delay. This happened month after month. I took off $100 (I gave him a task since he had talent around refinishing stuff) to give him a partial break. He had told me he would pay it on a certain date. When that date arrived he said that he had purchased his niece's cap and gown, that it was unexpected. Basically taking the money he owed me first and using it for that. He then gave me his word he would pay me after a few weeks. Those weeks passed and he gave me another reason. The last one he said that he would get paid the day before Thanksgiving and give it to me in full. I had a weird feeling about that, thinking to myself that he might spring upon something else. I am looking forward to my daughter whom I rarely see, visit me (and her boyfriend) on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a VERY difficult time for me, but I will not go in detail. A few days ago, he sent me a text asking me if I ever had to replace a light in an apartment kitchen (we are in an apartment complex). Those lights are pricey. He said he was thinking about buying one and charging management. I then asked him if he would pay me in full in the day or evening for the day before Thanksgiving. He said most likely during the day but then added that as long as there were no delays. I had a feeling he would say something like this. I told him I was really looking forward to the money because of my daughter's upcoming visit and that I could use it and that I had faith that I would receive it. 3 more days before I learn the truth. Will he break his word again? Was the whole settlement really a lie (he had talked about that coming month after month..)
I feel very foolish that I tried to help him. Also for thinking that I would be such a good person for doing so. That was my sin. And I am so full of anger (another sin). I am so upset. I keep imagining how it will go down this Wednesday. I made such a severe mistake.
So after all of this, my story, I ask for forgiveness for my sins and anger. That the "lion that prowls" stays away from me. That I receive my money, and somehow through a miracle or something, I get off this contract with him. A big lesson is to learn that dishonesty can be disguised (he considers himself a religious person and has proclaimed it to a lot of people). I just ask for prayers, with the most important I believe would be that my anger is forgiven and replaced with peace and to not let my faith waver.
Thank you, everyone, for hearing me out. May Jesus bless all of you.
