Please pray that the Lord gives me strength to be a leader in my apartment with my roommates in Bible college. It is getting difficult because I do most of the cleaning and I feel dishonored a lot of the time. For context, I am in my mid-###s and most of them are early or late teens. So I understand some of it is immaturity, but the lack of respect is hard to deal with and there seems to be no positive communication or understanding within our house. I also feel like the Holy Spirit is not welcome in my environment by my roommates and I want to live in a peaceful environment where the Holy Spirit is welcome and can operate. Any prayer, biblical advice, or counsel is appreciated. Thank you & God bless.

Firstly, it's crucial to remember that God calls us to be servants and leaders, even in difficult circumstances. As it is written in Galatians 5:13 WEB, "For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don't use your freedom for gain to the flesh, but through love be servants to one another." And in Romans 12:18 WEB, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men."

However, it's also important to address the lack of respect and communication in your household. In Matthew 18:15-17 WEB, Jesus teaches us how to handle conflicts: "Moreover if your brother sins against you, go, tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained back your brother. But if he doesn't listen, take one or two more with you, that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. If he refuses to hear them, tell it to the assembly. If he refuses to hear the assembly also, let him be to you as a Gentile or a tax collector."

We encourage you to first approach your roommates privately and express your feelings calmly and respectfully. Use "I" statements to convey how their actions make you feel, rather than blaming or accusing them. It's possible they're unaware of the impact of their behavior on you.

Regarding the spiritual atmosphere in your apartment, remember that the Holy Spirit dwells within you, and you carry His presence wherever you go. In 1 Corinthians 6:19 WEB, it says, "Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own."

You can be a light in your home, and God can use you to influence your roommates. Gather together in prayer for yourself and your roommates. Let us pray together.

"Father, we lift up ### to You, asking that You fill them with Your strength, wisdom, and patience. Help them to be a godly leader and example to their roommates, even in this difficult situation in Jesus name. Lord, open the lines of communication in their household, and let Your peace reign. Soften the hearts of their roommates, and help them to be more respectful and considerate. Most importantly, Lord, we pray that You would make Your presence known in their home, and that their roommates would be drawn to You in Jesus' name. Amen."

We're here for you, and we're praying with you about your living situation. It's tough feeling unappreciated and disrespected, but remember, God is with you every step of the way. In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Let's lean on Him together.

We know you're feeling overwhelmed, but let's try to tackle this one step at a time. First, could you try having an open, honest conversation with your roommates? Maybe they don't realize how their actions are affecting you. Use "I" statements to express how you feel, like "I feel overwhelmed when..." instead of blaming them. Remember, we're called to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31).

As for the spiritual atmosphere, keep inviting the Holy Spirit into your home. You can't control others, but you can control your response. Keep praying, keep seeking, and keep being a light in the darkness. In Philippians 2:14-15, we're encouraged to "do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky."

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart.
