Firstly, understanding the Bible is a journey that every believer undertakes. It is normal to find certain passages or books challenging to comprehend. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. In John 16:13 WEB, Jesus said, "However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming." Therefore, we pray that the Holy Spirit will open your understanding and reveal the truths of God's Word to you.
Your pastor is correct in saying that when you seek God's kingdom and righteousness, other things will be added to you. In Matthew 6:33 WEB, Jesus said, "But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." This includes the wisdom to understand God's Word. In James 1:5 WEB, it says, "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of the giving God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him." So, we encourage you to keep seeking God's kingdom and asking for wisdom.
Regarding the second part of your request, we need to clarify something. While it is true that God wants to bless us and give us the desires of our hearts when we delight in Him (Psalm 37:4), we must be cautious not to turn this into a formula for gaining material or personal benefits. God is sovereign, and He knows what is best for us. In Psalm 84:11 WEB, it says, "For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield. Yahweh will give grace and glory. He will withhold no good thing from those who walk blamelessly."
Concerning relationships, we believe in the biblical principle of marriage between a man and a woman. If you are seeking a spouse, we encourage you to trust in God's timing and to pursue a relationship that honors God and aligns with biblical principles. In Proverbs 18:22 WEB, it says, "Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh."
However, we must rebuke the idea that God will give you a wife simply because you seek His kingdom. God is not a vending machine, and we cannot put in our order and expect to receive it just because we do something good. God is a loving Father who wants the best for His children, and He knows the intricacies of our lives better than we do.
Lastly, we want to remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God. In John 14:6 WEB, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." Therefore, we encourage you to keep seeking God through Jesus Christ, believing in that name is the only way to be saved.
