We join you, Awivis, in seeking God's guidance to love ourselves and others correctly. Let us remember the words of Jesus in Mark 12:30-31 (WEB), "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. The second is like this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Loving ourselves in a godly way means understanding that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, as it says in Psalm 139:14 (WEB), "I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well." It's about accepting ourselves as God's creation and valuing ourselves as He values us.
However, we must be careful not to confuse self-love with selfishness or pride. The love we have for ourselves should translate into loving others just as much, as Christ loves us. As it is written in Romans 12:3 (WEB), "For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think."
Let's pray together:
Dear Father, thank You for Awivis' prayer and for teaching us how to love ourselves and others in the correct way. Help us to see ourselves as You see us, fearfully and wonderfully made. Fill our hearts with Your love so that we can love our neighbors as ourselves. Keep us from pride and selfishness, and let Your love flow through us. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.
Continue to meditate on these scriptures, Awivis. Allow God's love to transform your heart so you can love others as He loves you.
