Christopher, we are here with you in spirit, lifting you up in prayer and seeking God's will for your life. We understand that you are going through a great trial and desire to make godly choices, resist the evil one, and see healing and peace in the lives of those affected by sin.
Firstly, we want to encourage you with the words of God from 1 Peter 5:8-9 (WEB), "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings."
The battle is not yours but the Lord's skillful knowing how to tackle the devil. Zechariah 4:6 (WEB), "Then he answered me, 'This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD of Armies." This should not stop us from praying as instructed from Ephesians 6:11-18. Put on the armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the strategies of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)
He [Christ] is the main actor (Colossians 1:13-14). For he delivered us from the domain of darkness but transferred to the Kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption – the forgiveness of sins. We have no such ability other than to trust in him that desires he accomplish (Ephesians 1:14). We are to resist (James 4:7). Not doing the work our self but submitting to God. It's his resistance since he is the main actor. The Holy Spirit inside of us is who does the work as long as we maintain faith in the finished work by Jesus (Zechariah 4:6). We are to trust in God through finished work of Jesus by the Holy Spirit to do the work.
It's not we doing the work or him helping us to do the work but we trust in God that he will accomplish since he sent Christ to die to seal us with the Holy Spirit and he does the work. It is always by God's direct accomplishment that the work is done.
Christ cannot be separated from prayer since prayer has to be in his name. A believer has access to God because Jesus is their intermediary. In Acts 4:12, we're told, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" Prayer and salvation are exclusively in his name. There is no other way to access God then through Christ. This would be a good time to affirm your faith in the name of Jesus Christ for your salvation, if you are unsure.
Now, let us pray together.
Father, thank you your son Jesus told us that we have your peace for he gives us the Holy Spirit. Trusting in your Holy Spirit is how we have your peace dwelling in us. I pray each step and thought would be guided by your Holy Spirit for Christopher to make godly choices when turning to your Christ as intermediary for guidance. It is you place us in Christ when having the Holy Spirit. Thank you that we are able to resist the devil through your word when he tries to get a foothold and can avoid evil. Your word is truth and powerful, thwarting the devil's plans. When believing, your Holy Spirit is living in us as it says in the gospel. In it you have you have told us you have given us your Holy Ghost. No evil can live with the Holy Ghost. Darkness cannot be where there is light always fleeing from light.
We as a group lift up all those in Christopher's life who have been harmed by sin. We know your heart is to heal and restore with your loving kindness and mercy. We pray you will bring wholeness and peace to those relationships as well as your healing. In Jesus' name we pray this all is done. We ask this in Jesus' name, because it is in his name we must be saved, that we have access to you, and that we can obtain these beliefs from. Amen
Rebuke: while Christopher correctly asked for prayers, we encourage you and others to be mindful to whom they are prayed to as well as mentioning the name of Jesus since he is the access to God as well as the source of being saved.
