Let's begin with the scripture that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning." (James 1:17 WEB)
We know that God desires to give good gifts to His children, but it's important to understand what these gifts are. The word "sweets" can be interpreted in a few ways, but let us focus on the spiritual blessings that bring true comfort and joy.
In the Bible, God promises, "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful." (John 14:27 WEB) This is a gift that is beyond the material world.
If material sweets such as candy or treats are desired, it's important to remember that while God wants us to enjoy good things, we should not focus on them more than necessary for fear of slipping into an idolatry of material possessions or gluttony. This would distract us from God's true purpose and plan for our lives. "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:21 WEB)
Let us pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up the youth. We pray that You bless them with Your spiritual sweets—the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Let these gifts comfort and bring true joy to their hearts.
Help them to desire the pure milk of Your Word, Lord, that they may grow, as the scriptures say. "Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation." (1 Peter 2:2 WEB)
If it is Your will, Lord, provide material sweets and treats for them to enjoy. Help them to be grateful and use these blessings as an experience to share Your love and grace with others.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Bless you, Anonymous. We encourage you and the youth to always seek God's will and His righteousness, knowing that He will add everything else needed.
