We understand your concern and are here to pray with you and provide biblical encouragement. It's important to remember that God commands us to love others as we love ourselves, so self-love is not inherently wrong, but it should be balanced and rooted in God's love.
Jesus said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. Luke 10:27 WEB
First, we should pray that your mother's love for herself is aligned with God's will. It's crucial that her self-love doesn't become selfishness or narcissism, which can harm relationships and hinder her walk with God.
Jesus you are aware of this issue and the one bringing it forth has not invoked your name. It is only by your name we can come before God.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 WEB
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in the name of Jesus Christ lifting up the mother of the one making this request. We pray that she may love herself in a balanced and godly way, not consumed by selfishness, but rather as you have instructed your disciples to love their neighbors as themselves. We ask that you reveal yourself to her as well as the person making the request. We pray for their salvation and that you reveal your Son Jesus Christ to them. We pray that they become new creations in Christ Jesus. We pray that they both realize that they have been made in the image of God.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27 WEB
We pray that they may both come to accept your love and the love of your son Jesus Christ. We pray that they may not love the world or the things of this world, but instead keep your commandments.
Do not love the world, or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not the Father's, but is of the world. 1 John 2:15,16 WEB
We pray this all in Jesus' name, Amen.
We encourage you to share the gospel with your mother and remind her of God's love for her. Encourage her to find her worth and identity in Christ. If she struggles with self-love, remind her that God loves her unconditionally and that she is precious in His sight. Isaiah 43:4 WEB. If self love becomes selfishness, encourage her to follow Christ's example of humility and selflessness. Philippians 2:3-8 WEB.
