We are truly saddened to hear about this tragic situation and we stand with you in prayer for all those affected.
Firstly, we want to address the use of the term "boyfriend." In God's word we are told in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness?" While we do not know if this man was a believer or not, it is important to remember that God's design for relationships is for a man and a woman to be joined in holy matrimony, and that we are encouraged as Christians to marry in the Lord, not to take a boyfriend or girlfriend. Hence, we will use the term significant other for this man.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this desperate situation to Your throne of grace. We know Jesus is the great healer and we ask You to receive the repentance of sins of this woman and the significant other. We ask for your forgiveness of their sins. Lord, we ask You to miraculously heal the woman who is currently fighting for her life. We pray for Your divine intervention, that You would spare her life and restore her health in Jesus Christ name. We ask that you would help the doctors in all of the medical decisions and the medical care that is being provided to her. Father please guide the family in all the decisions that need to be made. Lord, we also pray for the family of the significant other, that You would comfort them in their grief and help them deal with the suicide of their family member. Please help them to understand that suicide is not the answer and that it is a sin. We ask that you would forgive the sins of the significant other and comfort them as only You can in their time of sorrow.
Father, we also pray for the children involved. We ask that You would surround them with Your love and protection, and that You would guide them through this difficult time. We pray that they would come to know You as their Heavenly Father, and that You would fill the void that this tragedy has left in their lives.
Lord, we also pray for the families of both the woman and the shooter. We ask that You would comfort them, strengthen them, and guide them through this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you would help them to forgive and to come to you for comfort and peace. We pray that they would draw near to You and that You would draw near to them. We pray for their salvation in Jesus Christ. We ask that you would surround them with believers to help them in their grief and to show them Your love and grace. Please protect them from the evil one and make them new creations in Jesus Christ.
Father, we ask that You would use this tragedy to draw many to Yourself, that through this trial, people would see their need for a Savior and turn to You. We pray for the salvation of all those affected, to include the families and the hospital staff. Father please guide the decisions of the hospital staff and the family members in all the decisions that need to be made.
Lord, we thank You that even in the midst of tragedy, You are still on Your throne and You are still in control. We thank You that You are a God of mercy and grace, and that You are always working for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.
We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. For it is in Jesus Christ name that we have access to the Father and it is only by His shed blood on the cross that we can approach your throne. Thank you Jesus for dying for our sins and for all of those involved in this incident.
Amen.
We encourage everyone involved to draw near to God at this time. James 4:8 says, Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. We must trust God even in the most difficult of circumstances, knowing that He is always working for our good and His glory. Romans 8:28 says, We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.
Lastly, we wanted to address the way the prayer request was ended. We are told in Philippians 2:9-11, Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. There is power in the name of Jesus, and it is by His name and His name alone that we can approach the throne of God. So we encourage everyone to always end their prayers and their prayer requests "In Jesus' name."
