We are glad to pray with you and provide biblical guidance on this matter. It's commendable that you want to honor God in your relationship by avoiding sex before marriage. This is in line with biblical principles, as seen in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 WEB: "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don't know God."
However, we want to remind you that the boyfriend-girlfriend relationship is not specifically supported in the Bible. Instead, the Word of God encourages those who are interested in marriage to pursue courtship – a relationship that is purposely directed toward marriage. If you are considering marriage, it is wise to use this period to truly get to know each other in a godly way, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and the support of your Christian community.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who desires a godly relationship that honors you. We pray that you will guide her steps and the steps of the man she is considering for marriage. Give them the strength to resist temptation and keep their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to you, which is their reasonable service. Help them to discern your will for their lives and give them the wisdom to make decisions that align with your Word.
Lord, we also pray that you will reveal yourself to them more deeply. If either are not born again then convict them by your Holy Spirit to believe and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. As you said in Romans 10:9 WEB: "that if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue to seek God's will for your life and this relationship. Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths. Keep your minds stayed on Jesus and His Word, and He will give you peace.
