Jonathan, we appreciate your openness and the feelings you have for Savannah. It's wonderful to see young people like yourself valuing friendship and companionship. However, let's remember what the WEB says in 1 Timothy 4:12, "Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity."
Firstly, we notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. It is only by His name that we have access to God. As it says in the WEB, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). Therefore, we will pray in accordance with this truth.
While it's natural to have feelings for someone, it's important to approach this situation with Godly wisdom and purity. Flirting and emotional attachment at this age can often lead to paths that do not honor God. Remember, "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18).
Instead of focusing on romantic feelings, use this time to build a strong foundation of friendship. Get to know each other in group settings and avoid one-on-one dates until you are both of marriageable age. Encouragement to be alone together and to be physically affectionate is discouraged. It is a theft of what should be saved for your spouse someday. "Do not Immoral conduct of any kind," or even hint at it (Ephesians 5:3).
Spending time together and flirting can lead to temptation to sin. So be careful. As it says in the WEB, "But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, nor any kind of impurity, or covetousness, nor must there be filthy or foolish talking, or jesting, which are not appropriate; but rather giving of thanks" (Ephesians 5:3-4).
We encourage you to pray for God's will in your life and Savannah's. Seek Him first, and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33). Trust in His timing and plan for your lives.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up Jonathan and Savannah. We pray for their friendship, that it may be pure and honoring to You. Guide them in Your wisdom, and help them to resist temptation. Help them to seek You first in all things.
We pray for your will in their lives. Help them to be patient and wait for Your timing. If it is Your will, may they be united in marriage someday. Most of all, may they each be united in marriage to another committed Christian believer.
We pray for their growth, both spiritually, and emotionally. Help them to be lights for You in their school and among their friends.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage both of you to stay sexually pure and commit to only date with a goal of finding a spouse when you are old enough to consider marriage.
