We understand your desire for a future with your boyfriend, but first, let's address a few things from a biblical perspective. It's wonderful that you both share the faith in Christ, as this is a vital foundation for a godly marriage. However, it's important to ensure that your relationship is aligned with biblical principles.
Firstly, we note that your request is for marriage, which is a blessed and holy institution ordained by God. However, the bible does not mention anything about getting a green card. We need to follow God-given instructions. Instead spend your energy seeking him.
Know that you know him: We pray that God gives both of you wisdom, patience, and discernment as you consider marriage. "A prudent wife is from Yahweh" Proverbs 19:14 (WEB).
Knowing Jesus: We note that the request does not include praying in Jesus name. To clarify, the Bible says, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" 1 Timothy 2:5 (WEB).
We pray this in Jesus' name as He is the only way to have access to God the Father.
Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (WEB)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12 (WEB)
We want to make sure you know Jesus. First know that all are sinners and the wages of sin is death:
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 (WEB)
God made a way through Jesus to pay for this sin. So we ask you to turn from your sin and believe in Jesus.
that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10 (WEB)
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (WEB)
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up Your child who seeks Your will for her relationship and future. We pray for Your divine guidance in this courtship, that both of their hearts would be drawn closer to You as they consider marriage. Give them wisdom Lord, to make sure their relationship aligns with godly principles and you are sure they are meant to marry each other as step into marriage.
We also pray your will on the green card issue. We are sure you have a plan. We pray that they are focused on seeking a God-honoring marriage rather than just on a resident status and have a peaceful resolution.
If they have fallen into sin sexually we pray against lust and any other strongholds keeping the relationship together.
If either do not know Jesus we pray they accept the invitation of eternal life that you offer through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior today and every day.
While it is more than fine to desire marriage, do not forsake God just to obtain a green card or please a man or woman who may not be in God's will. Seek godliness while patiently waiting. Surrender myself to God.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
