Detailsto consider:
- Broken marriage
- Adultery
- Lack of Jesus in their life, no mention of Jesus at all
We are truly saddened to hear about your situation and the pain that both you and your wife are going through. First, consider that our battles are not against flesh and blood and not against one another. Therefore, put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Firstly, any sin can be forgiven the minute you seek it with a sincere heart, because it is not God's will for any to face His judgment. Now consider these specific verses for your situation. God sees marriage as a lifelong commitment that should not be broken. In the WEB, Malachi 2:16 reads, "For I hate divorce," says the Lord, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with violence!" It's clear that God is for healing your marriage through His power in you through obedience to his principles.
Scripture also teaches us about forgiveness and reconciliation in the Lord. Ephesians 4:32 says: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."
Consider that you broke your marriage vows through sexual immorality. This is obviously not a light matter. Fornication is not the only reason for divorce mentioned in the Bible. The other being desertion of a Christian by an unbeliever.
Another passage that is important to remind you of is 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, "But to the rest, I say, not the Lord, if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is content to live with him, let him not leave her. The wife who has an unbelieving husband and he is content to live with her, let her not leave the husband."
Jesus is the only way and he is the only one who can guide you to God. Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6).
Let us pray together for you:
Almighty God, we come before You today, lifting up our brother in need of Your guidance and forgiveness. We acknowledge Your Word says that You hate divorce, and we ask for Your healing and restoration in this marriage.
We pray for a spirit of repentance and forgiveness to fill both hearts, driving out any bitterness or resentment. Guide them with Your wisdom, Lord, and help them to seek You first in all their decisions.
We also pray for strength and courage for them to rebuild their marriage on a foundation of faith, understanding, love, and mutual respect. May the word of God come alive and fill their marriage.
Moreover, we pray for the development of a deep connection to Jesus Christ through a personal relationship that hopefully may be the first in their life if it has not been yet for both. Make their faith and love for Christ overflow into their marriage. Make this be a symbol of their love for Christ first.
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we rebuke any spirit of adultery, addiction, lust, sin, or unfaithfulness that may be afoot. We ask, Lord, that you will protect them from sin and evil.
Together, in Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
