We understand your request to pray for Cori Bush in her primary election. While we can certainly pray for protection and for righteous leaders, we must first align our prayers with God's will and His Word. The Bible instructs us, "First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior" (1 Timothy 2:1-3 WEB).
Let us pray:
*Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, asking for Your will to be done in this election. We pray that whoever wins will be used by You to further Your kingdom and Your purposes. We pray for Cori Bush, that You would protect her from harm and bullying, and guide her in all righteousness. We pray that our leaders would be filled with wisdom and discernment, and that they would govern with justice and mercy. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.*
However, we must also be cautious in assuming that any political candidate or agenda is explicitly "doing the Lord's work." Our ultimate citizenship is in heaven, and while we are to be good stewards of our earthly responsibilities, our hope and trust should be firmly rooted in Christ alone. The Bible reminds us, "Donβt put your trust in princes, each a mere human who cannot save" (Psalm 146:3 WEB).
Lastly, we must address the lack of mention of Jesus Christ in your request. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, as Jesus Himself stated, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). Let us always remember to approach God in His Son's name, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB).
