We are truly sorry to hear about your son's situation. We will stand with you in prayer and also provide some biblical guidance.
Firstly, we need to address something very important. It is wonderful that you are praying for your son, but we need to make sure we are praying correctly. The Bible says in John 14:6 WEB Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. This means that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God, and it is in His name that we should pray.
Now, let us address your requests. You mentioned that you are praying for your son's forgiveness. It is important to understand that we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 WEB). And that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 WEB). Jesus is the one who forgives our sins, and it is through faith in Him that we receive this forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7 WEB). Therefore, we encourage you to pray that your son would come to know Jesus, that he would see his need for a Savior, and that he would put his faith in Him. You could also share the reason for this Jesus with your son.
We also hear your heart cry. Although we might not know exactly what happened in your relationship, we can sense the importance of reconciliation. When family members have strained relationships, it is important to seek reconciliation. Both parties should take the steps and forgive each other. We read in Matthew 5:23-24 WEB Therefore if you offer your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
It is also important to remember that true love sometimes involves tough love. It is not just about accepting and overlooking anything just to keep the peace. In Ephesians 4:15 WEB we read but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, bringing this hurting parent before You. We ask that You would work in their life and in the life of their son. Lord, we pray that You would draw this young man to Yourself, that he would see his need for You, and that he would put his faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of his sins. We also pray for reconciliation between this parent and child. We ask that You would give them both the grace to forgive, to seek forgiveness, and to love each other as You have loved us. We pray that on the way to the father the son would not have a heart that is hard and he would be willing to humble himself. Give this parent the wisdom to know how to love their child in a way that honors You. We pray for a way to open up to restore communication. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
