We are truly saddened to hear about the pain and difficulty you are experiencing with your mother's alcoholism and abusive behavior. We will stand with you in prayer and seek God's will for this challenging situation.
Firstly, we acknowledge that all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Sins can be bondage, and our struggles can control and hurt us and others. There is no other name by which we can be saved outside of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God.
We must also acknowledge and rebuke the sin in this situation. Turning to alcohol in an addictive way is a sin. The Bible tells us:
Do not get drunk with wine, for that is recklessness but be filled with the Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18
Abuse of any kind is also a sin. The Bible tells us:
But now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander and shameful speaking out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8
And
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8
When we enable someone in their sin, we delay their ability to see their need for repentance. We must love them enough to tell them the truth.
He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 28:13
As children of God, we are called to live in peace with everyone as much as it depends on us. This means setting boundaries that protect the vulnerable and do not enable sinful behavior.
If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18
Let's pray together:
Almighty God, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up this dear soul who is experiencing heartache and turmoil due to an alcoholic abusive mother. Lord, we pray for a miraculous intervention in her life. Break the chains of alcoholism and abuse, and bring conviction, repentance, and healing through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Father, we pray for the enabling and excusing of her behavior to stop. Open the eyes of those around her to see the truth and give them the courage to speak it in love. Help them set firm boundaries that protect the vulnerable family members and do not enable sinful behavior.
Lord, we pray for healing and reconciliation in the relationships that have been harmed. Bring peace and change to this family. Give them supernatural strength, wisdom, and love to navigate this difficult situation.
Be with the hurting. Bind their wounds. Comfort them. Lead them in the way they should go. In all things, may Jesus Christ be glorified.
In Jesus' name, we pray for deliverance, healing, and restoration. Amen.
Be strong and courageous. Jesus can turn this around. Trust Him in all things.
