Often, we talk about persecuted Christians as part of our family. We do so because there are too many times when following Jesus means losing a literal family - and only Jesus can provide a global family.
Hoang's story echoes this reality. When he left his tribal beliefs to follow Christ, his family became his first persecutors.
His wife hits him, hides his Bible and forbids him from meeting other believers. His son-in-law who lives in their house, tried to make him give up his faith and to force him to bow down before the family altar and worship their ancestors.
Finally, Hoang was forced to flee his home and escape.
Despite the persecution, Hoang holds tight to his faith in Jesus. He pretends he is going to work, but instead goes into the jungle so he can pray and read his Bible. A believer from a church several miles away meets with him in the jungle once a week to study the Word of God together.
Hoang holds a position with the local government and has been told he must give up Christianity or risk losing his job and government benefits. When he refused, he was forced to sign a document saying he agrees and is willing to bear the consequences of his conversion.
You can put your arm around Hoang in comfort and supplication by lifting him in prayer to God.
Pray God will strengthen his faith and make him a shining testimony to his family and community.
Ask God to soften his wife's heart and make her receptive to the gospel. Ask God to stop the abuse, and for Hoang to have wisdom about how to show Jesus to his wife and community.
Pray God will make a way for Hoang to be able to study the Bible and meet other believers in his own home.
Pray God will give Hoang peace and provide for his needs if he loses his job in the local government.
Thank you so much for praying with our persecuted brother. God bless.
