Please lift up urgent prayer for Christians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). A wave of attacks on villages in eastern DRC has left scores dead, along with burned homes and churches.
In late September, the village of Makayanga in the DRC was attacked in the early morning hours while people were preparing for church services. At least 2 Christians died and at least 30 houses were set on fire. A church was also set ablaze during the attack.
"I received a call from my father," a relative of a Makayanga shared with field partners. "He was panting. He told me they were in the bush, fleeing the village because they had just been attacked. "
On October 1, a neighbourhood in the town of Komanda was attacked. "The incident started in a church compound," says a witness. "The pastor's wife was first shot, and then her grandchild. At about 9pm, they gathered everyone and chained those who were in the church compound. More than 50 people were kidnapped, most likely all Christians. Because of past attacks, many people were seeking refugee at the church."
Aside from the pastor's wife and grandchild, six more Christians were killed and at least 10 houses, including the pastor's, were burnt down.
Please pray with the people of this troubled area of DRC as they mourn the loss of so many.
Pray for the pastor who lost his wife and grandchild, and all who have lost loved one, or who are still searching for family that may have fled or been kidnapped.
Pray for pastors and churches who were ministering to the displaced, the bereaved and traumatised while they themselves are dealing with their own loss. Pray that God's Spirit will draw close to them and provide them with the wisdom and grace they need to minister.
Pray for the violence to end, so the thousands who fled can return in peace. Ask God to provide for their needs in the meantime.
Thanks so much for praying, God bless. Taken from a text alert by Open Doors USA.
