North Korea continues to be one of the most notorious places in the world to live as a Christian.
And Covid-19 has made it even worse.
North Korean officials have used the pandemic as a excuse the widen the 'no man's land' at all it's borders to 1 mile wide. Soldiers have orders to shoot to kill anyone spotted within that zone.
As a result, the number of people fleeing from North Korea to south Korea has dropped to almost zero - with one man and one woman making the full journeybetween
April and June this year. Only 32 people made it to South Korea and freedom in the first six months of 2031. (By contrast, over 1,000 arrived in 2019, and 272 in 2020)
This is an important statistic because it shows how tightly the North Korean government is controlling it's borders. For Christian North Koreans, it means their situation is even more desperate, especially since even people who make it to China may be taken back to North Korea. Once there, they will ve asked if they attended church services or prayed.
If they respond with "yes" they're usually sent to a labour camp, where they most likely die.
Please don't cease praying with our brothers and sisters in North Korea.
Pray for those who are trying to survive the complete lockdown in North Korea, especially secret believers. Ask God to provide for their needs and keep their faith strong.
Pray for those who escaped and have been brought back, especially those who may have found Jesus while in China. Ask God to comfort and uphold them.
Ask God to intervene and change the hearts of North Korean authorities, that they will finally begin to care for the millions of people living under oppression, persecution and starvation in their country.
Thanks so much for praying, God bless. From an Open Doors USA text alert.
