One part of the persecution story sometimes overlooked is the ongoing trauma from attacks that can emotionally and spiritually cripple believers. In places like Nigeria, deadly attacks and sexual violence happen almost daily.
Recognising the dire need, in 2019 Open Doors opened the Shalom Trauma Center - a place where Christians could receive extended trauma care. Over the last two years, more than 1,500 men women and children have passed through the center.
Now thanks to your support, the Shalom Center is expanding to accommodate even more victims.
The new buildings will allow the center to host an additional 35 survivors at a time - up from 15. The number of people served will jump from 720 to 2,880 a year. A needed increase - our rearcher report that violence in Nigeria is at a record high.
Places like the Shalom Center are why Open Doors works with local, on-the-ground partners - they know the needs. When you partner with us, you help our partners bring trauma care to thousands of hurting Christians - widows whose husbands were killed in attacks, women and girls raped by extremists, orphaned children, etc.
Women like Aisha, a survivor of sexual violence. "If I hadn't attended this program, I don't know how my life would have been," she says. "I have seen the love of God."
Please pray with us for the continued growth and success of the Shalom Center.
Thank God that the center has helped so many traumatized believers. Pray for workers as they minister to the broken.
Pray for the men, women and children who desperately need aftercare to cope with physical, emotional and spiritual injuries from vicious attacks for their faith.
Ask the Lord to bring an end to the ongoing violence in Nigeria and neighboring countries.
Thanks so much for praying. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
