Many of us struggled to find church community during the pandemic, but connection and fellowship is even more critical in countries where levels of persecution are high. In those countries, believers need extra support and extra strength to continue following Christ. Nethmi, a church leader and theology student, is one believer who struggled to keep her faith strong when the churches in Sri Lanka were locked down during the pandemic. Like many congregations around the world, nearly every church activity moved to online platforms. Though convenient, the impact was lacking compared to in-person meetings.
The lack of spiritual nourishment and engagement with other believers took a toll on Nethmi's spiritual health. And she wasn't the only church leader struggling to disciple congregations consistently.
Please pray for believers all over the world to be able to rejoin in-person communities now that the pandemic is waning. Ask God to draw them together like magnets to steel, and to joyfully return to discipleship programs.
But Open Doors partners help with a solution for Nethmi's spiritual dilemma. Open Doors partners in Sri Lanka held a leadership training session for leaders and pastors. Most of the participants serve in rural areas where there is a lot of hostility toward church gatherings. The goal of the training was to inject hope and strength into the leaders.
Nethmi attended and was extremely grateful for the training. "It was a breath of fresh air," she said. "This was much-needed training for me. The teachings were so practical and easy to understand. I can recall them without the help of notes," she said. "I did not have the opportunity for training or learning the Word of God for almost three years. Now I have regained the momentum I lost and can focus on moving forward in my leadership journey."
Pray with Nethmi as she takes what she has learned back to her village and shares it with other believers there. Ask God to give her and the other church leaders a passion to reach and raise a new generation of leaders.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
