As it's name implies, Central African Republic (CAR) is in the very centre of Africa, surrounded by many other countries where violence against Christians is common. The nation has seen near-constant conflict and fighting since 2013, as various armed militia groups have fought for power and territory.
Many militia groups specifically target Christians. Churches have been burned and ransacked, Christian leaders who denounce the violence are threatened, and thousnads of Christians have now been displaced and now live in camps.
Though CAR fell 10 spots on the World Watch List in 2021, a good deal of that is due to the militia revel groups fighting amongst themselves. Christians who converted face great pressure from their relatives and neighbours to renounce their faith in Jesus and return to Islam, particularly in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
Open Doors has been working to highlight the plight of the church in the country, and assist the church to provide emotional and physical relief to Christians targeted by violence. Partners support the church in CAR with helping with training, relief assistance and medical aid, financial support, reconstruction of churches and help with business ventures.
Please pray the believers in CAR can endure the violence and conflict that seem never to end, and be light and peace amid the storm. Ask God to bring peace to CAR at last.
Pray God will protect believers who are targeted for attack by Islamic extremists, organized criminal militias and radical animist believers.
Pray for converts from Islam, that they would be protected from oppression at the hands of their families and communities, and find others who can help them grow and mature in their faith.
