Imagine you had just moments to grab what you could and then flee your home, community or your country - possibly forever. What would you take? Where would you go? How great would be your fears be about the days to come?
Now imagine your only 'crime' was your faith in Jesus.
Millions of Christians are counted among the world's refugees and those internally displaced in their own countries, often due to religious persecution. Their situation may be even worse, because their fellow refugees reject them for their beliefs, refusing to share what meager relief is available.
Those hardest hit in a refugee situation are women and children. Often travelling on foot due to a lack of transportation, women face the risk of attack. Children are vulnerable to violence and hunger. Many times young boys are taken and recruited into militant groups to become terrorists.
Put yourself in the shoes of these believers for a moment. When you reach a designated refugee area, what would you find? Most likely, tens of thousands of others who got there before you. A lack of basic necessities like food, water, medicine and shelter. Another community antagonistic to your faith. And you would be bringing your family into this situation with you, with no idea when - or if - you will be able to return home again.
This is why Open Doors works through local partners to deliver urgent relief to displaced Christians around the world. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with local churches and existing networks to provide relief and, hopefully, sustainable trauma care support.
We are blessed to have the opportunity to pray directly for brothers and sisters in Christ who face unimaginable hardship every day.
Please pray for the millions of refugees and internally displaced people, asking God to comfort and heal those traumatized by violent experiences.
Ask God to embolden refugee Christians to share the gospel and the love of Jesus to those around them, that they may come to know Him as Saviour, too.
Pray Open Doors can find local partners to help channel supplies, assistance and encouragement to refugees around the world.
Pray for the militants who aim to cripple and displace Christians (Matt.5.44
) and drive people out of their homes. Ask the Lord to change their hearts and stop the pain they are inflicting on our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Thank you so much for praying, God bless. From a text alert sent by Open Doors USA.
