My name is Latifa and I live in North Africa. I come from a Muslim family, not particularly devout. I met my future husband and grew close to him before I even realised he was a Christian. Praise God that after some time, I came to believe in Jesus too.
I was so filled with joy, and I wanted my family to wonder what had happened to create such a change in me. But when I told them I was now a Christian, everything changed. My family disowned me. My brothers did everything they could to prevent me from going to church. They even threatened to kill me and my husband.
Please pray for strength and endurance for Latifa, her husband and other believers in North Africa. They endure unimaginable pressure from their families every day. Pray for greater resilience and that they would stand firm in their faith.
Once, attackers hit my husband over the head so hard that we feared he would loose his memory. As news of our faith moved outward in our family, my uncles told my mother, "It is legal for you to kill her." This was to preserve their honor. They considered us a disgrace to the family and their faith.
My family visited my husband's places of work. They told hhis employers about his faith, and said they should fire him. If they refused, the family said they would stir up trouble. This put their businesses in danger, and so they fired him, leaving us without financial support.
Hold Latifa and her family up to the mercy of God. Ask Him to continue to protect them and to bring other believers around them to support them.
Landlords evicted us twice from our homes for being Christians. But thanks to the mercy of God, Open Doors partners stepped in and helped us to find a safe place to live. Despite all this persecution, I will never give up my faith. The threat from my family remains, but I choose to forgive them.
I believe that with forgiveness, God can change hearts.
Praise God for Latifa's attitude of forgiveness! Ask Him to use her as an example to open the eyes of those around her to the beauty and strength of faith in Jesus.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
