It's a nightmare that began on July 6 and will never end for Rev. Daniel Umaru and his family in north-eastern Nigeria. According to reports, gunmen attacked the family's home in Maraba in the early hours, shot and killed Umaru's two sons, brutalized the pastor and fled with his 13 year old daughter. This follows a string of attacks against clergy members in northern Nigeria in recent weeks. We MUST commit to pray for our family there.
Currently, Umaru is hospitalized in critical condition. His wife witnessed the destruction of her family and collapsed. She remains in a coma as a result.
Maraba is in Adamawa state, which has been regularly terrorized by Boko Haram and ISWAP. (Islamic State WEst AFrica Province) . Though the gunmen have not been identified, it is suspected that they were behind this deadly assault. It follows other attacks on clergy in past weeks that ended in abductions and death in each case.
Please urgently lift up the plight of the Umaru family in their hour of terrible anguish.
Father God, hold this young girl very tightly in Your grip and protect her in her captivity. Return her quickly and safely to her parents. Move Your hands over the body of Rev. Umaru and heal all the wounds he suffered. Send Your Spirit to reawaken his wife and invade their hearts as they grieve for the loss of their children. Despite the ongoing violence, please embolden the Church in Nigeria and particularly the leadership to keep ministering and sharing the gospel. Protect them and their families and show Yourself mighty in their defense.
