Our Christian family in eastern Myanmar are asking for prayer as daily life for believers continues to deteriorate. Christians have fled to refugee camps as military raids continue, leaving many dead and injured in their wake. Armed resistance is seeking to defeat the brutal security forces, which seized power in a coup last February.
As conditions worsen, frightened people are turning to the churches for help. But because the churches themselves have become targets of the military, many people have been left to extreme hunger, cold, poverty and violence - with no spiritual comfort to endure.
Throughout the decades-old civil war, Myanmar Christians have faced oppression and persecution at the hands of the military. This past year, there were no Christmas or New Year celebrations due to the fighting between the military and the Peoples' Democratic Forces (PDF). A massacre on December 24 left at least 35 believers dead, killed by Burmese soldiers. But world outcry has done nothing to change the situation.
Open Doors partner Brother Kwin asks for special prayer for his country, especially the youth. "The military assumes the youths to be members of the PDF , so whether the youths joined the PDF or not, it is not safe for Christian youths right now, especially in the areas where fighting between the military and the PDF have taken place. Pray for our youths to turn to Christ and respond to the situation biblically."
Please join us in lifting up this terrible situation in Myanmar and the believers who are hurting there.
Pray for those who are displaced within their own country and are without warm clothes, shelter and food. Pray that our partners and others can get to them to bring relief.
Pray for God to comfort those who have lost their loved ones and their homes. Ask Him to strengthen their faith and to give wisdom to pastors as they lead believers in this difficult time.
Ask God to bring peace to Myanmar at last, so that it's people can live and worship freely and enjoy the most basic of gifts - health, safety, daily food and water.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
