We are heartbroken to learn from one of our fieldworkers that on January 21st, a muslim radical group abducted a group of 16 young people in northeastern Nigeria. As we remember the kidnapping of Leah Sharibu, who remains in captivity four years later, let's lean into the power of prayer and the knowledge that God continues to do "Awesome things that we did not expect" - Isaiah 64.3
In the course of attacking two different villages, these radical militants abducted many people and killed at least four. The raiders went on to loot homes and shops in Kautikari and Piyemi, setting them on fire. A church was also targeted and destroyed the incident.
Please cry out to God on behalf of all those who were abducted, for supernatural protection and for their eventual release. Ask God to give the villagers courage, strength and boldness and to hold onto hope and faith for those who have been kidnapped.
Naturally, news reports were jumbled and confusing in the early hours after the attacks, but the most recent update from our field partners is that 15 girls and one man were taken and have not been heard from since.
Let's pray together, that the 'God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles" - 2 Corinthians 1:3 - would give peace to the families of those abducted.
Some observers are calling on the government to do more as these attacks continue in the most violent country for Christians. One local representative said: - "The Nigerian government must understand that the people of Chibok are still living in their various communities under daily threats to their lives and property."
Intercede for the Nigerian government, that sustainable and effective efforts would be made to restore peace and security in northern Nigeria. Pray that government leaders would gain divine strategy that would protect their people from further violence.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you for your faithfulness to Hebrews 13.3 and other verses. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
