When Mariam's daughter converted to Christianity, Mariam's family reacted with anger and violence. Her brother in particular, an who was hoping to become a religious leader, an iman in the Muslim community, but his neice's conversion brought dishonor to the family and derailed his plans.
In his rage, Mariam's brother began beating his niece.
He only stopped when she was dead.
The police arrested Mariam's brother and he was sentenced to prison. But the story didn't end there.
Mariam's daughter paid the ultimate price for Christ, and it struck Mariam's heart. She, too, converted to Christ. And again, her family reacted with anger and even death threats because she brought more shame to them.
Mariam is safe for now, but the Open Doors team has asked for urgent prayer support for her and her pastor. "We have been with Mariam's pastor since 4.30 this morning, working together to find a solution discretly ," a field partner shared.
Though the Christian-majority Ivory Coast is not on the World Watch List, in some parts of the country where Christians are in the minority, converting from Islam can be extremely dangerous.

Please pray that Mariam will experience a deep sense of comfort and the closeness of
God's Spirit as she grieves the death of her daughter. Ask for the peace that passes all understanding. (Phil. 4-7)
