In response to a recent UN report on human rights risks, the government of Iran stated that, "No one is prosecuted in Iran merely for holding an opinion or belonging to a particular class or group" But 3 of our Iranian family members, about to be imprisoned for establishing house churches "with the intention of disturbing national security." might state otherwise.
Our brother, Iranian-Armenian pastor Joseph Shahbazian - age 58 - received a 10-year sentence, followed by 2 years of internal exile. After his release, he will not be allowed to travel abroad, become a member of a social or political group and will have to report regularly to Iran's intelligence service for 2 years, according to ARticle 18.
Along with brother Joseph, two women, Mina Khajavi - age 59 - and Malihe Mazari - age 48 - will each serve a 6-year prison sentence. Four other Muslim background believers received sentences but were allowed to pay fines amounting to approximately $800 - $1200 each instead. However, they will have criminal records which will impact future opportunities for employment.
Many governments accused of Christian persecution often attempt to disguise these human rights violations in order to disguise these human rights violations in order to be perceived palatably by the rest of the world. In reality, they find covert means to drive the Christian population from the region. Iran is one of these countries, and secret believers in that nation are in constant danger of imprisonment.
Let's wrap our arms around this brother and these sisters as they stare down the long years of incarceration ahead of them.
Lord, no prison is secure enough to keep Your Spirit out, so please fill these believers to overflowing, and let there be a shock-wave of faith that infects everyone around them. Use this time to bring many to You, and give them the physical, mental and emotional stamina they need to endure it. Infuse Iranian believers with faith in the midst of so much insecurity and fear. Strengthen them as they continue to meet together and encourage one another and protect them from those who would seek to destroy them.
Thanks so much for praying, Yah bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
