When we hear a story of a terrible bombing, it's easy to focus on the disaster - the unnecessary loss and pain. But a year later, two young believers who survived a bombing in Indonesia have demonstrated remarkable resilience. We can thank God for the grace He has provided as they heal from their injuries.
Valeria age 21 and Karina age 20 were outside the Cathedral Church in Makassar, Indonesia on March 28, 2021, when two suicide bombers attacked. Both bombers died instantly, but 20 other people were injured and required care. The attackers were beieved to be affiliated with Islamic State.
Karina suffered from a nail in her leg and burns on her face and scalp while Valeria was more severely hurt. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent six hours of surgery to remove pieces of iron from her chest and leg and then underwent painful debridement of her burns in the intensive care unit. She still receives treatments today.
God, we ask for continued healing for both of these young women. We ask that you would not only heal the pain and the scars but that You would heal any trauma related to this event. Surround them with Your love and affection and help them to feel Your nearness.
Both of the women still experience pain and itching even a year after the incident. But what hurts them most is that anyone would choose to injure others because of religious differences.
"Our hope is that this kind of incident will not happen ever again in the future. Please, no more persecution between religious communities," Valeria pleads. "It's very traumatic."
"I would like to say thank you so much to Open Doors for helping us. We never count the amount given because no matter how much it is, it is very valuable to us. May God bless all your activities and plans in the future, and may this organization continue to serve many people," Valeria said.
Father, we pray for more opportunities to minister to those who have experienced traumatic events like this one. We ask that You will surround Indonesian churches with a sense of safety and protection so that they will not fear gathering together again.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
