Our brothers and sisters in Indonesia are asking for your prayers. Indonesia is reporting the highest daily new infection rate of COVID-19 cases in the world as the delta variant takes hold there. The hospitals are overwhelmed, medical staff is exhausted and there is currently no end in sight.
Fear of the virus and discrimination against Christians have caused sad situations, like the one Yumita Tambunan found herslef in. Yumita's father died of COVID-19 and she tried to have him buried at the local cemetry. The coordinator of the facility \demanded she pay 4 million Rupiah about $275 because "non-muslims are not covered by the government."
She negotiated a lower price, but then the gravediggers demanded an exorbiant fee at the cemetery to complete the work. A government official said the cemetry is free to all those who die of COVID-19 , but that didn't prevent this upsetting situation at a time of extreme emotional pain.
"We suspect there have been many similar incidents," the offical said. The coordinator who charged the fees has been dismissed.
COVID-19 may be easing in your area, but our brothers and sisters in places around the world need our prayers and support.
Please pray for an end to this pandemic, and ask God to safeguard the believers in it's path so they can serve Him among their people.
Pray for the healthcare workers and volunteers of Indonesia as they struggle against the tidal wave of cases that have broken the health system there.
Ask God to use His people as lights in this dark and frightening time, with wisdom and compassion to reach out to others, rather than giving in to fear. (2 Timothy 1.7)
Thanks so much for praying for our brethren who are undergoing persecution as the Bible commands us to in Hebrews 13.3 and other verses. Info and prayer requests from a text alert from excellent charity for persecuted Christians - Open Doors USA.
