Recenytly, one of our field contacts sat down to talk with a young Indian woman named Mehr. As they spoke, Mehr was the picture of peace and tranquilty, wrapped in her red scarf, her hands folded calmly on her lap and her Bible besides her on a bedside table.
But Mehr hasn't always been this content. She has lived through some very dark days and yet has found herself on the other side of them, still clinging to Jesus
You see, Mehr and her family left Hinduism for Jesus, but their community hated them for it. The family was verbally abused and accused of converting for money. The entire village feared they had upset the local gods. And that same fear drove the villagers to violence.
After a prayer meeting, neighbors attacked Mehr's mother and sister in the street. She ran to help them, and was beaten mercilessly. "They tried to strangle me with a cloth." By the time a bystander called an ambulance and stopped the attack, she was wounded and bleeding from several severe injuries.
Even the hospital didn't protect her. Angry people from town bribed the doctors and nurses to stop treating Mehr. She suffered panic attacks and anxiety, fearing the attackers would return.
"I was devastated and crushed. But my sister and my mother prayed with me. I was revitalized and strengthened by the Word of God. Psalm 23 was instrumental for her - "for You are close beside me, Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me."
Open Doors partners heard of Mehr's situation and helped her to move to a hospital friendly to Christians. They paid her medical bills and financially supported the family, since they all lost their jobs as a result of the attack. Persecution prepardness training and counseling showed them people everywhere were praying for them and that they were not alone.
Jesus, we ask for complete healing over Mehr's body and mind as she continues to recover from her injuries. We ask for continued financial provision for she and her family as they pick up the pieces of their lives. Protect them and cover them with Your wings and allow them to feel they are safe in Your arms again. Father, we ask that you would continue to show Mehr who she is as Your beloved child. We ask that You would continue to reveal to her the hope of her calling. Guide and direct her every step.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
