"It was at night. We heard gunshots everywhere so we fled. We took nothing with us. We live here in the open, no beds, under the rain and sun. It is really difficult." Unfortunately, Mama Teseli's experience in her home country is not at all rare for believers, especially those in eastern DRC. The main threat is from the Islamic extremist group Alliance for Democratic Forces (ADF-NALU)
Attacks from the ADF and other militant groups are a huge risk for the Christian population and the churches. Violence has resulted in more than a million internally displaced people. Additionally, followers of Jesus are at risk of being kidnapped and having their homes d destroyed.
Converts from Islam and Tribal religions face pressure to take part in non-Christian religious activities and ceremonies. They face continual pressure from their communities and families to rejoin the faiths they were born into and give up Jesus.
Believers like Mama Teseli hold tight to their faith, regardless of the pressure. "I tell myself God is in control," she says. "He will wipe away my tears. My husband taught me how to read the Word of God, and He tells me to give thanks in all situations, and that is what I do. It helps me."
Open Doors focuses its work in the DRC on persecution preparedness training, emergency relief and support, and cross-cultural ministry training.
Please join in praying with our persecuted family in DRC
Pray for the Lord's abundant grace to the church in DRC as they seek to minister Christ's hope to people whose lives are totally disrupted. Pray for the Lord's provision, strength and hope.
Pray for those mourning the loss of loved ones, or seeking those who have been kidnapped. Ask God for their safety, and that the military would be more effective in uprooting the militants.
Pray God would touch the hearts of the ADF militants. Ask that He would turn them from violence and they would see the true face of the Prince of Peace.
Thank you so much for praying, God bless. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
