Please continue to stand with us in prayer for Pastor Lorenzo Rosales Fajardo who disappeared into detention in Cuba last July. He was taken to a prison in Santiago, Cuba and was forbidden communication for weeks. Our partners in Cuba report that he appeared in court before Christmas and faces the possibility of a 10 year prison sentence for 'disrespect,' ' assault,' 'criminal incitement' and 'public disorder.'
Pray for peace and hope for Pastor Fajardo's family and his congregation, who are deeply concerned about his treatment in prison. Ask God to have mercy on him, keep him healthy, and break the deadlock keeping him behind bars without trial or reason.
The arrest happened when Pastor Fajardo, along with thousands of other Cubans, took to the street on July 11, peacefully calling for democracy and economic reform. The repercussions were immediate and violent. Police and security beat up protestors and arrested hundreds of people, including many pastors. At this point, Pastor Fajardo had already been on the government's radar when his home was confiscated in 2009. According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide, the charged were believed to be a result of his denomination leaving the state-run Cuban council of Churches. Since that time, he has been repeatedly harassed and threatened by Communist officials.
Maridilegnis Carballo, Fajardo's wife, who was the only relative allowed to attend the December hearing, said it had been a 'show' where the prosecution did not deliver any evidence of the crimes her husband had been charged with.
Please lift up Pastor Fajardo and all the pastors and other protestors who have been held in prison in potentially terrible conditions. Pray for their safety and protection and a swift end to their incarcaration. Pray that world pressure would have an effect - but even more, that God's hand will be evident in this situation.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
