Friends, the 3rd wave of COVID-19 in Syria is stronger than the previous waves. Unfortunately, hospitals are unable to treat the numbers of infected Syrians. Our partner's report the country's Ministry of Health is ignoring the situation and it's up to the people to protect themselves against COVID-19 without any official precautions or regulations in place.
The official figures released by the government seem to underestimate the actual figures. On May 10, officials reported a total of 1,664 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Syria.
Our partners report many believers have friends and relatives who died after being infected with the coronavirus, including the father of 27-year-old Nancy Samra from Latakia. "The doctor gave him medicine and said he would get better." Nancy said. "one night he woke up choking, unable to breathe. We took him to the hospital, but there was no room for him because it was full of COVID-19 patients. He didn't make it. I think the hardest thing was finding the hospital say they had no room for him."
In 2019, Open Doors planned to gradually move away from giving relief support to focusing on income-generating support. Mourad, coordinator of our work in Syria says: "We wanted to give opportunities to generate income so people would not think of leaving Syria. Moreover, we wanted to focus more on spiritual support, on investing in leadership. Unfortunately, in 2020 coronavirus added a new, serious challenge as the economy in poor countries like Syria were hit hard beside the international sanctions. As a result, we had to decide to continue giving food to the neediest." Therefore, thanks to your support in Syria, churches have provided Christians with oxygen, medicine and hospital expenses.
Please pray God provides for every spiritual, physical and emotional need for His children.
Pray the spread of coronavirus would stop and that the government of Syria would be wise and merciful in how it leads it's people.
Ask God to tend the sick, give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted and to shield the joyous in Jesus' name.
Thank you so much for praying for our persecuted brothers and sisters. God bless. information from a text alert from Open Doors USA.
