David is an indigenous believer who lives in the remote mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Columbia. He grew up as the son of a religious leader whose animist tribe worships the spirits of their ancestors.
But David always questioned his religion and miraculously was able to go to a Christian school where he learned to pray and to seek God. After being healed from an unexpected illness, David accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour and began to travel and share his testimony.
When he returned to his own community, people came to Christ through his testimony - and that's where the persecution began.
"Christians must meet in hiding," David shares. "At night, they walk in absolute silence with only two lanterns, until they reach a remote place to have a moment of worship, without singing, without making any noise. The place where we meet changes constantly to avoid being discovered. It doesn't always work."
The religious leaders discovered David was holding one of these services and when he refused to stop, they punished him by depriving him of food and water. He grew severely ill but again, God healed him.
Despite everything he has been through, David is still fighting.
"For this reason, we strive to remain in the faith to attain eternal life," he said. "For me and for us it's important. God shows us the way of truth, of life. We fight for it."
When Open Doors learned about David and the Christian community he has planted, our partners brought food and medicine and prayed with them.
Please pray for our brother David and this indigenous faith community.
Pray for strength and wisdom for him as he continues to bring the Word of God to his community.
Pray for David's life and health, which is very weak. Ask God to heal him from all the diseases and pain that afflict him.
Pray for the Christian community that David pastors. May they remain steadfast in their faith.
Thanks so much for praying, Ahayah bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert
