It seems like almost every week, we get a new report from Christians in China that shows how the Chinese government is chipping away at religious freedom. The latest example is that a popular Bible app in China has been taken offline. One million Chinese users also no longer have access to an online Quran. The new restrictions are an effort to eliminate religious thought from the country.
Under Chinese President Xi Jinping's leadership, the Communist Party has tightened its control over the country, including its churches and mosques. "Religion is seen as a potential de-stabilizer and certainly not aligned with socialist ideology," a local Christian told Open Doors.
Since the country re-entered the top 20 of the Open Doors World Watch List this year, Christian websites and social media accounts with high-volume traffic have been blocked or closed, she said. "It is as if Xi Jinping believes the time has come to rein in and restructure or realign religions, .particularly Islam and Christianity, hence the recent determination to enforce restrictions. Citizens must 'be directed' rather than allowed freedom of speech or belief,' said the local contact.
Please pray with Chinese Christians who see the doors to spiritually enriching resources slamming shut, one by one.
Pray with believers in Jesus to have access to Bibles and other study tools to build their faith and deepen their understanding of the Lord, without government restriction.
Pray for the government of China to recognize the strength that diversity brings to a nation, and ask God to supernaturally intervene so these restrictions are lifted.
Ask God to use His holy Spirit to teach the believers in China, and to help them mature in Christ despite the stumbling blocks put in their paths.
Thanks so much for praying, God bless. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert
