"Don't you realise you bring shame on this household?!" Every day, Samida, our sister from Central Asia, has to listen to these words, which are accompanied by many beatings.
In Central Asia, a woman's status, dignity and value are dependant upon her marrying and having children. Samida has had no requests for her hand, and she is 26 years old - far past the usual 21 to wed. She is 'tainted' by the fact that she follows Jesus.
Samida's father once said he followed Christ. He is almost blind but became bitter when Jesus did not heal him and he turned from the faith. But Samida continued to cling to Jesus.
God, we ask that you remind Samida of Your promise that she has a 'hope and a future' (Jeremiah 29.11) Strengthen her and help her to keep her eyes fixed on You. Comfort her with your love today. We also pray for her father who has left the faith. Reveal Yourself to him and turn his heart back to You again. Draw him with 'cords of loving kindness' (Hosea 11.4)
Samida buried her Bible in the field where she tended the family's sheep and goats. It was one of the few things that kept her going. But one day her mother caught her, beat her terribly and burned the book before her eyes.
Other Christians in the village saw the abuse firsthand. They observed her mother drag Samida through the market square by her hair, beating her with a rod and calling her a bad and lazy woman. "She treats me like a slave," Samida said. Then the family forced her to sleep in the shed with the animals stating there was no longer room for her in their home.
"In their eyes, I am nobody. I can't move somewhere else. A woman on her own is assumed to be a prostitute, and she can never feel safe. The laws in our country do not permit me to settle permanently in another town."
Samida asks that you pray with her for a solution to her situation.
Father, hear the cry of Samida's heart as she longs to feel safe in her own home. Help Samida to be aware of your guidance and provision. Protect her heart from any bitterness and unforgiveness towards her family and give her creative ideas to demonstrate Your love to them. Protect her from further abuse, and still the hands of her abusers. Convict them of their sin.
Thanks so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert
