At dusk in Cameroon, Christians gather their belongings and leave their houses behind. They walk silently up the nearby mountains to sleep there. The area contains snakes and other dangerous animals, but they are less dangerous than the Boko Haram extremists who might come in the night and attack their village.
On Sunday, May 1, a church elder explained the ongoing situation to one of our field workers. "We have stopped church services because Boko Haram terrorists make life impossible. If they come, they kill people. So, we have decided to have church services somewhere else." They live very close to the Nigerian border, but borders mean nothing to violent groups that kill and displace thousands of people. It's an aspect of the situation in Nigeria that is seldom mentioned.
The church members are afraid to meet because Boko Haram has repeatedly attacked their village. Meeting as a group would draw attention to them, enlarging the target on their backs. Instead, they moved their church meeting to a nearby village, hoping for more safety.
Some of the Christians are so frightened that they have packed their belongings and plan to leave the area completely. Lift these brothers and sisters to God as they try to find a safe place.
Father God, we ask that you shield these believers from the attacks of the enemy. Surround them with Your might and power. Increase their faith as they pray together and establish a strong church amid these difficult circumstances. We ask that you protect believers who are fleeing the area. Give them guidance and direction as they move to a new place.
In Jesus Name, Amen. Thank you so much for praying, Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors text alerts.
