At around 3am on May 31st, the village of Hitawa in Cameroon awoke to a startling sound. Boko Haram militants had invaded their small alcove. In the following moments, residents listened in fear as the militants shot randomly into their homes and then set fire to houses. The military was alerted, and a fierce battle ensued.
When the fighting stopped, the village was empty. All residents had fled, a source said. Local newspapers report 10 people killed (7 civilians and 3 soldiers) , 4 of them identified as Christian members of the local evangelical church. Two children wre kidnapped and at least 30 houses looted and destroyed. Several other people were injured.
A church leader said, "Pray for all these Boko Haram victims. Because, these persons, most are people who are adults, family heads, aged 60, 70, well settled in their family, in his home, now they have seized everything. Added to that, he is driven from his home, sometimes living with someone, if he has the luck to live with someone, or live in a tree or in a hole, I think that is a great difficulty."
A church leader said, "The army has left, and the people no longer have a choice. The people are obliged to leave the little they have becasue all hope seems lost."
Lord Jesus, we lift the people of North Cameroon who have been hit by these continuous attacks. Heal those who are still recovering from injuries. Father, comfort those who grieve for the family members they have lost and bring the 2 children back home safely to their families. We ask for a total recovery of their homes and their lives.
Thanks so much for joining me in prayer. Elohim bless you. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
