Samsuddin is a veterinarian in Bangladesh. He also does some pastoral work and he and his wife, Mafuza, share the gospel wherever they can.
A few weeks ago, Samsuddin went to a veterinarian training seminar. Suddenly the doors were flung open and policemen raided the hospital, arresting all the vets and trainers present. They accused them of being part of an anti-state conspiracy and holding secret meetings.
When detectives went to Samsuddin's home to gather information about him, they asked if he was part of Jamaat-e Islam - a religion-based Islamic politcal party. Samsuddin told them he is a Christian who converted from Islam many years ago. The villagers confirmed the information. He's treated their animals for years, and is known to be very active in ministry.
Though Mafuza is bold in proclaiming her and her husband's faith, she worries there won't be justice for her husband in this case of being falsely accused, especially if his Christian witness is used as a reason for further persecution. "The investigators have taken documents of our Christian activities and certificates to prove that he is a Christian."
Now a court has approved a short sentence for Samsuddin, but he must raise bail to get out. Local police are demanding money so that he will not be tortured when he is in jail. Mafuza said it may take two months for her husband to post bail.
Samsuddin is currently very frustrated, depressed and is getting weaker. He cannot eat and drink due to fear and tension. The fact that the story is carried in national news causes the family great distress. Local Open Doors partners are in constant contact with Samsuddin's family and are finding ways to help them.
Will you please pray with Samsuddin and Mafuza in their time of desperation?
Pray Samsuddin would be able to eat and drink again and recover his strength. Ask God to comfort him and his family, that they do not loose hope.
Pray for God to speak for Samsuddin when he is interrogated by the police and lawyers. Ask Him to allow the Holy Spirit to control the conversation and outcome.
Pray for the neighbouring believers and church leaders as they help Samsuddin and encourage his family. Ask Him for unearthly peace for them.
Thanks so much for praying, God bless. Taken from an Open Doors USA text alert.
