Rubina walked past a church one day where a pastor was teaching a weekly Sunday class. She didn't mean to stop - but she was engrossed in what was being said. Week by week, she lingered outside the window, absorbing the words and concepts.
One day the pastor saw her, realized he'd seen her there before, approached her and asked why she was outside the hall. "I love the teaching, so I am listening," she said. A wide grin split her face. "I would like to receive Isa(jESUS) , and I will share this with my husband.
With great joy, Rubina ran home to tell her husband of this wonderful God named Jesus, and how she had decided to follow Him. The reception was not what she had expected.
Her husband became angry and beat her for saying such things, wounding her badly.
she was beaten and warned again. Her husband also threatened the pastor - "Ifyou continue doing your religious activites in this village, I will beat you up,: he said.
Finally, Rubina husband divorced her. He then cast her out and said she was never to enter their home again. Her 18 year old daughter, Shalma, went with her. Rubina's parents would not shelter them, so they moved in with a local believer.
Life was hard for them, since they were vulnerable in their community and they were the topic of gossip as women living alone. Rubina took odd jobs to bring in food and essentials, but during the pandemic lockdown, work became impossible to find.
Despite her situation, Rubina held tight to her faith, and shared it with her sister, who is showing a positive response to the good news. Open Doors partners helped with basic necessities. And, in an unexpected blessing, Shalma came to faith too. She married a Christian man, and they are doing well now together.
Praise God for His faithfulness to Rubina and Shalma in response to their belief, despite being cast out of their family.
Pray for continued growth for Rubina as she learns more about the Lord at her church.
Ask God to help Shalma and her husband to grow together as a couple and as a light in their community.
