"Why have you converted to Christianity? You must go to hell. You will be destroyed! That's what Muslim extremists yelled at a group of Christian converts in Bangladesh as the radicals entered the homes of the believers. The next day, the 10 Christian families - 23 people in all - were invited to the mosque to "have a conversation." But upon arriving, they were confirned in the mosque and told repeatedly to deny their new faith in Jesus. They were forced to walk around the mosque 3 times and weren't released until they agreed to attend the mosque faithfully.
A local pastor heard what happened and reported it to the authorities. The extremists at the mosque were ordered not to force Christians to renounce their faith or prevent them from practising their faith. However, the pastor shared with our local partners: "We are living under high pressure from the local Muslims. Christians are hiding and cannot go to work. Nobody is giving them work."
Most of the believers never returned to the mosque. Many of them went into hiding, which can be extremely difficult since so many of them live in poverty.
Our local partners provided emergency aid to the families. But while on the way home from this distribution, two families were families were stopped by Muslim extremists. The radicals took the relief packages and threw them into a pond saying: "You cannot eat this food, if you eat, you will commit sin because this is the fruits of sin. You cannot take any assistance from Christians."
The pastor again told local authorities - but this time nothing was done.
Ask God to strengthen these believers and give them wisdom on how to respond biblically.
Pray for the families who were forcibly trapped in the mosque. Pray for those who renounced their faith under extreme pressure, that God would remind them they are His. Pray for the families who risked everything to follow JESUS, that God would be close to them.
Pray for God to open the hearts of the Muslim extremists in Bangladesh and allow them to experience the love and grace of Christ.
Thanks so much for praying like the Bible tells us in Hebrews 13.3 and other verses to pray for and support our persecuted church. May Elohim reward you for your faithfulness.
