In countries where Christian persecution is common, gathering together for worship can feel like a luxury! We are so blessed to meet with our church families here in the United States, but many believers around the world don't have the same opportunity.
A church in Bejaia, Algeria called 'Aouchiche' felt privileged that they still had the opportunity to meet each week....until the government decided to close its doors.
Aouchiche, a large and influential church with over 300 members, was part of the Algerian Protestant Church(APC) On April 6th of this year, the Wali (governor) demanded that the church cease worship immediately. It is one of 17 APC churches closed by the authorities since November of 2017. Brothers and sisters this cannot be!
Father, we pray for perseverance for the Algerian church leaders. We ask that you strengthen them in the midst of these challenges. We ask that the government campaign against the churches in Bejaia would cease and that church doors would open again!
Our Christian family in Algeria depend on the fellowship and support of other believers. Persecution is escalating, with 12 Christians recently arrested on charges such as 'blasphemy' and 'proselytism'. Most of them have received prison sentences ranging from six months to five years. It is important that churches meet in order to strengthen those that remain.
With the government increasing their targeting of Christians, many individuals and churches remain in limbo as they wait for court decisions. Most of them expect a negative verdict. It's time to stand with our family in prayer!
Be near to those who are in fear, Jesus. We pray for the comfort of the Father and the wisdom of the Holy Spirit during this time. We ask that You turn the hearts of the courts and that you give them favor with judges and juries.
Thanks so much for praying, taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
