We take for granted the freedom to attend worship at the church of our choice. But that option is not available in many countries where persecution is active.
Algerian authorities forcibly shut down 3 churches in the area around the city of Oran on July 7, bringing the total number of closed churches to 16 in this large North African country. Christians there are asking you to pray the churches will reopen.
Since 2006, it has been illegal for any building to be used for non-Muslim worship. Under the guise of inspecting churches for safety, officials demand to see a license that the church is allowed to operate. The government has not issued a single such license since 2006, and so the churches are closed.
The 3 churches just closed were previously shut down as part of a 2017 campaign to prevent them from operating, but reopened in 2018. The governor filed a lawsuit in August 2019 to close them again. An administrative court ordered their closure last month, and the order has now been implemented.
Please pray with our Algerian brothers and sisters in Christ for their churches.
Pray the regulations regarding non-Muslim worship will be amended so that Christians will be able to worship freely.
Ask God to use the conviction of the Holy Spirit to change the hearts of those responsible for the closures.
Pray no further legal action will be taken against churches, and the government campaign will cease.
Pray for wisdom and the peace of Jesus for pastors and leadership of the churches dealing with this situation.
Thanks so much for praying, God bless. From an Open Doors USA text alert.
