Our partners in Latin America have asked us to pray for a group of believers being held hostage in Haiti. A group of 17 Christian missionaries from the US and Canada were kidnapped by the notorious and powerful gang the "400 Mawazo". The gang is demanding $1 million per person for the group's release.
The missionaries are from Christian Aid Ministries, based in Ohio. The group includes 16 Americans and one Canadian - made up of 5 men, seven women and five kids.
The Washington Post said that one of the missionaries managed to send a WhatsApp message asking for help. "Please pray for us!! We are being held hostage . they kidnapped our driver. Pray, pray, pray. We don't know where they're taking us," the message read.
Marcelo, a missionary from Brazil who lives in Haiti, described the danger to missionaries and workers in Haiti: "church leaders and missionaries in Haiti live in fear because we are an easy target. Normally we have no protection, and we don't carry guns. The gangs know this and take advantage of our vunerability. They don't care about what good we do for their country. They want to expand their power, and to do so, they need money, which they get through these kidnappings. But we continue to do our mission because we have faith in God."
Please join people around the world as they pray for the safe return of these missionaries.
Pray for those being held hostage, that God would protect them from further violence and would ensure they are taken care of. Pray for their spiritual unity and encouragement.
Pray for the families of the hostages, and the organization that sent them to Haiti as they wait for news and pray earnestly for their release. Ask God to give them wisdom and strength.
Pray for those who've taken the missionaries, that they would hear the gospel through their captives and change the way they live and believe as a result.
Thanks so much for praying, God bless. Taken from Open Doors USA text alert.
