Shamim age 30 lives in Bangladesh, and works as one of Open Doors' adult literacy teachers. He and his family are former muslims who began to follow Jesus in a region that is heavily anti-Christian. On August 23 at 10.30pm, Shamim's cousins attacked him, leaving him severely injured. He is now in the hospital, recovering.
What was his crime? Shamim received food relief recently from Open Doors, and shared it with his students, opening the door for his family to share the gospel with their community.
They were already angry with Shamim - he had inherited some land they believe should belong to them. They even attempted to kill Shamim to take the land by force. But even worse for them than a land despute is that Shamim is now a devoted follower of Jesus. And so, the cousins beat him.
Despite his injuries Shamim has a heart of grace. "we do not want to report this incident to police for it will create more problems," he says. "Persecution might increase. We would like to forgive them and are praying for God to change their hearts."
Open Doors field workers have gone to visit Shamim in hospital and pray with him - they are looking for ways to help him more.
Please pray for healing and restoration for Shamim as his body recovers from the beating.
Thank God the cousins did not succeed in killing Shamim or harming other family members. Pray for His protection for them.
Ask God to use the godly example of Shamim and his family in his community, so that others will not only come to Christ, but stand up for others when they are persecuted.
Thank you so much for praying for our persecuted brother and his family. God bless. Taken from an text alert from Open Doors USA. To sign up for text alerts emails and other ways to pray and support this worthy cause please visit their website.
